It is the eve of my departure from my temporary home at Wesley Acres Camp and Retreat Center in North Dakota. Last winter I began a dialogue with my friend that would eventually lead to me serving on camp staff this summer. Factors beyond our control changed the situation and arrangements of the summer, but in June, I made my way north.
It has been, in many ways, a rewarding and fulfilling summer. It has indeed been a summer of challenges and personal and spiritual growth and stretching. My role at camp was something completely different from what I expected, and what I had spoken about with my friend. I found myself more homesick than I had anticipated. And with so little to do outside of camp life, I somehow found myself unexpectedly busy.
